Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu believes Lionel Messi will sign another contract and stay even longer at the Catalonian club than he would under the terms of his current four-year deal, which will elapse when he’s 34.
www sbobet888 Messi, who is Barcelona’s all-time leading goalscorer with 535 to his name, is thought to be in line to agree another contract that will see him stay at the club for the rest of his career, despite signing his latest one in November.
That contract was signed after much delay, and with the old one within months of expiry. Meanwhile Andres Iniesta recently signed a lifetime contract with Barcelona, which will mean the Spaniard finishes his career in Catalonia.
And Bartomeu expects the Argentinian star to sign another contract before the end of the 2020-21 season when his current contract expires.
“We are a club that bets on good football,” Bartomeu told Bloomberg.
“We have a unique style of play and Messi is the best player in the world, our key player.
“Andres Iniesta is an example. We want him here not as a player, but as a legend in the future.
“And with Messi I hope it’s the same. Now he’s got a four-year contract, but I don’t think it will be his last [with Barcelona].”
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi’s current contract has a buyout clause of £615m.
His Barcelona side next face Girona at home in La Liga, and face Chelsea in several weeks’ time on 14 March, with the tie currently poised at 1-1.
