Sawadee kha,
Hi everyone, I have a HTC Dream (new cupcake, rooted, JF1.5) and I would like to know if any of you know how to enable the phone to display Thai.
I am living in Thailand and when I receive Thai smses, I can’t read the Thai as it is in blocks (invalid characters). Is there anything I need to install or anything I can do with root access to enable me to read the Thai words sent to me via sms or in websites in the browser?
Thanks all for your help!

thank you for the link. I’ve tried from the last step installing font (running JF1.5) but after typing in all the mount -o rw commands and all the steps, it hangs at the last step. I remove battery and put back and switch on, now screen is stuck at “HTC Dream” and phone does not load… what is the problem? Any help appreciated, thank you very much!
I’m not sure about the problem. But we could say that’s your phone is now ‘bricked’… wait! htc dream? What region is this phone? my phone display “T-Mobile G1” because it’s from T-Mobile (US) make sure that’s you updated the same firmware as your region.
thank you so much for your help, bankkung.
I bought the HTC Dream from Singapore. It does not have “T-mobile” logo at the top. But I have rooted the phone and now it is running T-mobile (when I switch on the phone it will appear “T-mobile G1”, next logo “HTC Dream”, next logo “ANDROID” in blue colour shiny).
Yeah, I think I bricked the phone so I did a wipe and reupdated to JF1.5 again. Tried to install the Thai font one more time but it became bricked again (stuck at HTC Dream logo for 15 minutes). So I dare not try anymore. Anyone knows what’s wrong? Any help greatly appreciated, thank you!
Hi smint,
Could I ask you something? Did you copy just font or also libsgl.so?
Wanna try that’s singtel’s HTC Dream once. I don’t know that’s is it any different from other region. But i think all model for HTC Dream no even slightly different. You may left your phone for someone here about 15 min. And got new JF1.5 with Thai support. :p
I think i saw someone Mix the rom JF+OpenHome+Thai language somewhere here. Give it a try ,it may work.
dont copy libsgl.so to /system copy just font files (ttf)
retry i think this time will work
Thank you everyone for your help, khop khun maak. I tried again this time, only copy the font ttf files and it works. I omitted the libsgl.so steps (as I heard it’s for Android 1.0) – thanks to bankkung and it works perfectly well. Now I can get the Droidsans virtual keyboard to work, and I can visit Thai websites and the words appear correctly now. Thank you so much everyone. Khop khun na kha.
