Atrix 4G with Ice Cream Sandwich
Yes Google wants all its partners to maintain updates and support for 18 months. Yes the Atrix was released within that time frame, there is no saying that we will get this update.

2 things to remember. 1. Google doesnt own Motorola, they are in the process of buying Motorola Mobility. Different aspects of the company. Plus that is not completed yet through the various federal agencies that have to approve the purchase. 2. It took 6 months to get Gingerbread, which was released before the Atrix itself was. The phone has been out for 8. By the time they get ICS and start working on it, they could easily be outside the 18 month timeframe of update and support Google requests.

Another thing to consider, the Atrix 2 was released not long ago. Which phone are they likely to work on first? the newly released Atrix 2 or the older Atrix?

I would love to see ICS on my Atrix. But there is no guarantee that it will happen. They will work on newer devices such as the Atrix 2, RAZR and other newly released phones before they go back and work on phones such as the Atrix.
