I just picked up one of these second hand at MBK. I have a few problems. It came with 2.1, update 1 preinstalled. I have the problem that in recovery mode I cannot load any USB drivers, whether in Windows XP or 7. When in regular phone mode, I can do “adb devices” but most commands the phone just hangs. Also, I have a strange phone icon that keeps popping up. What is this icon and ow do I make the icon go away forever?

This phone is an A71 and you can flash Cyanogen 6.1 and have android 2.2.
You connect the device to ADB and push the Thai fonts (can download from droidsans.com) to the “system/font” folder. There are posts how to do it.
I don’t like the Kamilia rom. I feel my modified roms are better. Mine are rooted and are working great. The Kamilia rom installs all apps as system apps and this is not good to do. Very hard to uninstall and some apps cannot be updated properly if installed as system apps. I suggest people use my modified roms and based on suggestions I will add or remove programs.

I’ve fixed the issues with the ROM and it is now rooted out of the box. This is a hybrid ROM based on r1367 system files with the radio and kernel from r1632. So far I have found it to be fast and stable and the audio is working. Also, barcode scanner apps such as ScanLife and Goggles are working. In addition, the crop is now correctly positioned in Goggles.

I closed my 3GX account today, but I think they cheated me a little bit. I was supposed to get 3 free months and my first day was 4/8/53. So today would be 2 days after the three months. But when I canceled they said my first bill was on the 24th and that was my first month. But that means my first month was only 20 days, so my promotion was actually only for 2 months and 20 days. Instead of making me pay for 2 days (about 30 baht) like I expected, they made me pay for 13 days for a total of 135 baht. If I did not pay the 135 baht they would not close the account. Two months and 20 days is not free 3 months. 🙁
@sabao – That’s the same reason I want to cancel. I visit friends in places like Minburi and there is no internet connection. I switched my AIS service today to the Smartphone 400 plan. It starts at midnight. I never go over 250MB on the 3GX service so I think the AIS will be okay. I will go to MBK on Saturday and cancel. Thanks for the info. I will bring a copy of my passport. My free 3 months ended on the 4th of this month so I will owe them around 20 baht or so.
No you can edit the update.zip because these files are in one of the .img files. Not in the system directory on the pdate.
Dojo – Any luck on source code? We really need it to go anywhere with this.
Also the CPU in the i858 has the capability of running at a max speed of 1Ghz. The minimum recommended speed is 624Mhz and that is the current speed. If we make a Cyanogen ROM 2.2 we can give people the ability to run the cpu up to 1Ghz if they want.
I know how to update firmware. I want to know what Dojo listed as changes in this ROM release over previous releases.
Those ads you see for the same device with 2.2 are scams. They are just trying to steal money from stupid people. They don’t really have any goods for sale.
I have been trying to get source code but Yuhua doesn’t respond. If I had source code I could try to port CM to i858.
@veevie6: I asked Yuhuatel for the Source Code and they stopped replying to my emails. We need Dojo to get us souce code. Without source code porting to 2.2 is almost impossible. If we had source code we could do a Cyanogen port to the device.
